my boss, (CEO) of a construction company here in the US, is married to a pilipina (they met in south korea). he vacationed with his wife for the first time in manila (last year) and had the culture shock of his life!!! when he returned after a two-week vacation (his wife wanted them to stay for a full month but he flat out refused, he said a week was already a hellish experience, but out of respect and love for his wife he agreed to stay for two weeks) he had lots of stories to tell everyone in the office, mostly embarrassing things about the philippines. being one of the minorities in the office with mostly 90% of whites, i felt horrible. he complained about everything!!! the pollution, the chaos on the streets, children begging for food and money on the streets, and he said he'd never seen a country in asia lacking "law and order" such as the philippines. boy after hearing him say those things i wished the ground would just swallow me whole!!! i could've said something to depend our country but he was relaying his own personal experience and just too bad it wasn't so favorable.

For a country who has so much pride about education, religion, and many other bullshit, it's embarrassing to even relate to this kinds of people. Everywhere in the world, Pilipinos have been known for it's prostitution, discrimination between each other, and it's pride for self-proclaimed righteousness. How can some of you live with yourself after defending your fellow Pilipino even if in every way or form of society, religion, and beliefs committed a sin against not only to all humankind but also to GOD. How can a person live with herself like Ruffa Gutierrez. In every angle you look at her, she represents nothing but humiliation, degrading, and the lowest class of civilization--even lower than what her mom calls a PATAY GUTOM. You, RUFFA, a hypocrite, dirty old piece of trash needs to be taken to the lowest prison on earth and be left there for as long as you live. You have nothing to be proud of. Beneath that skin you have on you, you're filled with cockroach, leeches, worms, and a disease called greed. Hi guys, been awhile and all is quite. Just wanted to share with you some bit and pieces of information.
If Pinoy actors and actresses and really talented media personnel are wanting to get into hollywood, they need not fly over to hollywood to get into that door. Albeit it's 'smallness' vis-a-vis other hollywood production houses, Michael Gleissner's big Foot Entertainment has established a massive soundstage and an International academy on Aticng and Film in Cebu's Mactan island since 2004. Bigffot is a small Hollywood player but has produced quality films of late with Lucy Liu, Estella Warren and other heavyweight actors as well as producers for the theatre and tv. They are a gloval group with offices in China, the Middle East, LA and their school is in the Philippines. They chose the location for it's tropical setting and I believe the cheaper operation costs. Either way their students come from all over the world as well as their teachers and mentors and they work on various film and hollywood production. They've just finished a movie for release in Hollywood, although I think it's not bound for box-office blocbuster but for Sundance called Deep Gold produced by their subsidiary New Cebu Films which I think distributes through most of the network in Asia like AXN and Star.
I mean how cool is that? Yet, they are rather kept secret, I guess without having to relate to the rather crabby world of Pinoy Showbiz. So I guess they film there and distribute worldwide.Much like what Vancouver is to Hollywood as an extension backlot. Even then, what more can you ask, tropical beaches, a people who speak English with the best dollar-to-peso rates.
Sad huh, with that amazing facility and possible connection for Pinoys (good thing it's in cebu, away from the clutches of Manila's showbiz circus) you dont hear of Bigfoot much in manila's circles or see a Pinoy actor in the limelight enroll. There are notable Pinoy students who do study there but with the exposure they end up working in Bigffot productions & affiliates in NY or LA. Even Bigfoot's latest release which is a thriller about Philippine corruption where the story revolves around a young Cebuana cast a Vietnamese actress and a Singaporean actress.
Well, with the likes of Ruffa around, Bugfoot I suppose would rather cast those they know can carry themselves under hollywood's scrutiny. Some notable Pinoy actors were cast, but they are thespians like Joel Torre. One of my Tito's Congress compadre did a cameo, just coz they were needing a heli pilot and he had one as well. I hope Bigfoot could affect the internationalization and development in quality of Pinoy movies but at the moment, with the kind of people in the industry, looks like its gonna be closed doors. By the way, for real Bigfoot acquired the franchise for fashion TV in the region (hahaha Ruffa, this is how one owns a franchise, okay?) and has just bought 50% stake I think into a China/HongKong based production house. Nice huh?

philippines will always be looked down on for as long as there are children sleeping and begging for food and money on the streets of manila. no industrialized country would let their most helpless members fend for themselves. here in the US, almost everyone would come to an aid if they notice a child wondering off the streets and if they can't find thier parents, Child Protective Services will step in (ASAP) and make sure that this child is properly and safely placed.
but not in the philippines. Our politicians sleep well at night on their luxurious beds knowing that there are children out there hungry and sleeping on sidewalks or under bridges with hardly any warm blankets... really, what kind of culture does philippines have that it can stomach something so inhumane as this?

well, in his last series-- he visited Asia-- he went everywhere including the malaysian jungle with some head hunters-- he was drooling over Indonesia & it was glorious to behold--he loves his lechon- wh he tries in every pork eating coutry he goes to-- but he never went to the Phil.
Yeah, we watch that show all the time too. Nope, he never went to PI. I don't even think that Andrew Zimmerman--the guy that eats anything and everything ever went to PI. He'd gone to the deepest corners of Asia, including the lowest of low, but so far not in PI. I don't really see much of PI in any travel or discovery shows. Eventhough they've shown Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc. It's as if there's nothing impressive about Philippines and there's nothing to see in Philippines. They don't feel safe there. I guess we are in the bottom:very bottom of the lowest of the low.

when I lived in London-- I tried almost all their food--I just loved harrod's & selfridges food halls-- & marks & spencer's--I found the Brits have an equivalent of Phil food of sorts-- like their pasties are like a bigger empanada-- then i realized the Spanish brought it with them in the 15-16th centuries-- a good kipper is like an upmarket smoked bangus--I loved it all but I never tried black pudding wh is made from blood, pickled eels-- yuck! & haggis-- no thanks-- the brits love their innards.
I introduced my mother to kipper-- she couldn't get enough of it-- but she loved it w/ rice & vinegar,of course-- not for breakfast-- Harrod's had the best then.
I will say this about Phil-- which is the first t hing i noticed after i watched the tourism in other countries-- it has a very poor road system. transport system is all. then there's the cleanliness-- most of the streets are filthy-- tourists hate this, they really do-- then there's the goverment-- if they don't feel safe-- they won't go.

i guess we got side track here for awhile, hehe, didn't mean to i'm sure. i'm one of those that made bad comments about the philippines, only because my family and i go there every year to attend to our businesses; so i don't miss much and surely they've added more malls and more bigger malls, but truly there are many things that they could have focused on, like a better road system....traffic is one thing, but the lack of orderliness on the road is most irritating, most drivers even ignore the lines and road rules, as if any open space is for the taking. not to mention the "road" vendors, as soon as the vehicles stop, they're there to shove anything in your face for you to buy. i could go on and on but i won't. just letting you know that philippines need to hear it for what it is....especially from people who've been all over the world and can clearly see the difference between societies.

oh by the way, i read somewhere that ruffa recently took her kids to watch a movie and that in the middle of it, for some reasons, they had to leave (tantrum from one of the girls or something). the writer observed that ruffa and her party looked like a "production crew team" as they left the room - what will all her entourage of yayas and bodyguards, etc. i can just imagine the irritation of the other moviegoers as they did just that in the middle of the film.

This is nice reading your opinion, but i think you're closing your eyes to what's really happenning to our country. We're just trying to be logical and by doing so doesn't mean that we loss our love to our country, i for one will react if i hear someone critize my being as a filipino, but i'm a very fair person, if what's been said is truth, i think it's not demeaning if we accept that it's true. What's had been said in here are true becoz i've been there for 12 yrs. trying to do something to help the less fortunate of our kababayan and i saw how our country going down desperately. From the govt. itself, to the military and police system, to what you are saying the dept. responsible for cleanliness, they are all courrupt. The only person that can have a good life in Phil. are those that gets special previleges from the govt., why do you think a lot of our kababayan are running away from our country? You think they are happy to do so? leaving their family, their children? Nay, because these people are just the common tao of our country and the services and privileges for them are nil. Look around you and just be open, the same problems we had then and now, even worst now are visible, i maybe out of our country but i'm updated with what's going on there. thanks to the internet!!!!

İ am a very proud filipino truth of that is i've been married for 25 yrs. but never had i lost my phil. passport, never had i changed it to the passport of my husband. Taught my daughter and husband my language, they are very fluent, and taught them to eat tuyo and bagoong and with hands...but i never closes my eyes to reality....and the reality is Philippine is only for the privileged filipinos never for the the common tao, the 85% poor population you are mentioning. I don't miss Filipino food-- but I miss my lola's cooking-- but she's been long gone.but if I miss it-- I can cook a mean adobo-- & my leche flan according to my mother is like lola's-- I am gourmet cook--& my flan is in the French style. I found most flip food-- came from the spanish anyway-- & with that the original technique-- from french & Italian- so I go authentic.Excabeche, this,that other-- I will do it French.But i love Asian food.that's what i am trying to learn now-- thai, chinese, japanese . I can do Indian.
the phil needs a good transport system-- that goes far & wide-- not only metro manila-- & develop the surrounding provinces-- build housing projects-- so people will move there & be able t commute comfortably & easily to work-- with this-- congestion in Manila will decrease-- the poor have to be relcated & be given decent housing..

hey, phil was in the news here (just yesterday) in cnn and some local news here in Minn, USA regarding prisoners exercising to micheal jackson's thriller song. the local news made fun of them by making the video inaudible and the newscaster saying in the background: "sorry folks, this video was made without any sounds because philippines couldn't afford it!" how embarrassing is that? other newscasters were laughing also. see, this is how philippines is seen in the US, poor, poor, poor......
that particular news in both print and TV were also shown in europe - and yes, sadly, it was ridiculed. though it was done for good reasons, it sends a different message across the globe - bottomline is philippines is seen as pathetic and not a serious government to contend with. again, the joke is on us filipinos! nakakahiya!
I've actually seen this. There is not only one but three different clips. This was taken by a foreigner from the US and yes, it has a sound. I don't find that embarrassing but I rather find that amusing. Unfortunately, these people are prisoners. But there is nothing wrong with doing a clip like that. Ang nakakahiya are the likes of Ruffa and the other people who continue to disgrace the Philippine society.

Lorin: “I want a piano and I want to see my Baba (her dad, Yilmaz Bektas”. “Mommy, why do you have tears in your eyes?”
Ruffa: “No, sweetie, those are morning tears. My eyes are itchy.”
Lorin: “Why your eyes are itchy?”

Have you guys noticed? Lately, everytime they would write an article on any of the Gutierrez family. They always seem to write someone's else's names so that it doesn't look like it has anything to do with any of the Gutierrez. Like they're hiding these people and at the same time trying to write something out about them. It's very odd I think. I honestly believe it's because I know for a fact from my own sources that since all the chaos started a couple of months ago, everytime someone writes about Ruffa or her family, that writer gets ravaged with emails from readers chewing him/her out for writing lies on these people. for a change of topic to while away the time till loofah go to t he gallows...
so Yam is busy with his Echo-- I am happy for him, hope all goes well. but having said that-- I hope the flip press calm down & NOT MAKE peoples' hope get too much. This is NOT a Hollywood movie-- it's so far out t here being a b-indie film to be one. i EVEN WONDER IF THEY EVEN HAVE A DISTRIBUTOR FOR THIS MOVIE-- obviously, at t his moment-- it is not backed by a studio....
Meanwhile, josh Harnett is in Davao to start his film--now, THIS IS A MAJOR HOLLYWOOD MOVIE WITH THE BUDGET TO MATCH-- Harnett is now considered a A-list actor-- with Korean co-star & a Viet director-- now, with t his director his films have been selling in the foreign section of most top dvd stores like virgin & tower until it busted-- & I saw his film Cyclo-- not surprising HW is using him..
to this day I haven't seen one Flip film being sold in any mainstream dvd shop-- & never shown on any mainstream cable channel-- TFC & GMA does not count--actually my Asian cable hasn't even shown any flip film to date-- not since they upgraded it-- before they did now & again usually with that Judy Ann-- boring! & so amateurish. or that Donnavie-- same...........what happened???
and no rental either at blockbuster-- we'll see if they get sigaw-- that will be a good sign...

Kaya, magsasama sa fund-raising celebrity bazaar at fashion ang Kapamilya at Kapuso stars. More than one million ang target nilang malikom para ibigay sa Make-A-Wish Foundation at World Vision.
Aliw ang kuwento ni Ruffa tungkol kay Yilmaz Bektas. Kunwari raw ay against ito sa pagiging product endorsers nina Lorin at Venice, pero paulit-ulit pinapanood ang TVC ng Nido at teary-eyed pa. Natutuwa rin ito na kahit hiwalay na sila’t nasa Turkey ito, takot dito ang mga balak manligaw sa kanya. “I’m happy that people are afraid of Yil maz,” sabi nito.
Nagsu-shooting na si Ruffa ng Desperadas at magsisimula na silang mag-shooting ni Annabelle Rama ng My Monster Mom. Nabanggit ni Annabelle na after Kokey, may soap si Ruffa with Angelica Panganiban at isa pang soap bago magtapos ang kontrata sa ABS-CBN.

“The storm has passed,” said Ruffa Gutierrez (soon-to-be ex-Bektas), “and life goes on.”
While she and soon-to-be ex-husband Yilmaz Bektas are sorting out ways to annul their seven-year marriage, Ruffa said that she isn’t thinking at all about love, not even dating.
“That’s why I kept on changing my cellphone number,” she said. “I don’t want any calls from guys (prospective suitors). Only very few people know my number and it’s only them I give my new number to. I don’t even want to talk about love. Yes, I am loveless but I am happy.”
Ruffa is thankful that despite the recent ugly controversy, advertisers haven’t lost faith in her.
“In fact,” Ruffa smiled, “I just shot a new one in Malaysia. I can’t reveal yet what the product is.”
Because she said that “I have two daughters to feed,” Ruffa is working double time. She’s as busy as ever.
Desperadas, the Regal sex-romance-comedy that was almost shelved, has finally started shooting, with Joel Lamangan at the helm, and with only Ruffa remaining from the original cast. Ruffa has taken the role intended for Gretchen Barretto who has begged off because not only does she want to take a respite from intrigue and controversy, she’s also taking care of her ailing beloved Tonyboy Cojuangco. Ruffa’s original role landed on the lap of Marian Rivera, predicted to be GMA 7’s new hot property especially with the airing of the new soap Marimar starting next Monday, Aug. 13.
Dawn Zulueta has been replaced by Iza Calzado who is going to Canada next week to start shooting The Echo, the Hollywood remake of the Regal suspense-thriller Sigaw, still with Yam Laranas as director. Rufa Mae Quinto takes over from Pops Fernandez who is now on a US concert tour and will start preparation for her birthday concert in December at the Big Dome as soon as she comes back.
Playing the four girls’ mother (with different fathers) is Melanie Marquez, taking the place of Annabelle Rama who will team up with Ruffa in My Monster Mom, directed by Jose Javier Reyes also for Regal.
Also starring Wendell Ramos, Jay-R, TJ Trinidad and Christian Vasquez, Desperadas is one of the nine entries in this December’s Metro Manila Filmfest. It will be shown starting on Jan. 1, 2008.
ABS-CBN started airing last night Ruffa’s new show, Kokey (with Redford White, Ryan Eigenmann, Mylene Dizon, Zanjoe Marudo and Julia Barretto). Her other ABS-CBN show is The Buzz.
On Sept. 15, she and brothers Richard and Raymond, together with showbiz friends, will hold a fashion show called Rampa for a Cause for their favorite charities.

Ruffa Gutierrez and Turkish husband Yilmaz Bektas have reportedly agreed to seek professional help to shore up their turbulent marriage.
According to columnist-host Cristy Fermin, the two realized that salvaging the relationship entails serious work considering the severity of the issues that led to the breakdown of their union.
Resorting to psychiatric help and marriage councilors is a usual practice commonly done in Western countries to help a couple resolve whatever problems they have that threatens to tear the marriage. Here in our country, Filipino couples are usually not open with the idea due to social stigma associated with psychiatric help.
In YES! Magazine's July 2007 issue, Ruffa's psychologist, Dr. Violeta Bautista, mentioned the need for the couple, especially Yilmaz, to undergo psychiatric help to curb his temper which eventually triggers his violent tendencies.
Personally, Dr. Bautista assessed that Ruffa, at the start, never wanted either the separation or the divorce. What her patient wanted instead was "for the violence to end and the possibility of reconciling, with her being protected from future violent outbursts."
She also noted Ruffa's wish for Yilmaz to personally visit her here in the Philippines to pursue her and work out for an arrangement that is realistic for the betterment of the marriage. This is where the need for counseling comes in.
FIRST MEETING. Cristy also revealed in her column today, August 13, in Bulgar that Yilmaz was supposed to grace The Buzz live last Sunday, August 12, for an interview but changed his mind at the last minute. Instead, Yilmaz requested to have a taped interview with estranged wife Ruffa Gutierrez at his side.
It was the couple's first meeting after months of exchanging heated arguments through various media outlets. Yilmaz bravely visited the country last week to see his eldest daughter Lorin who celebrated her birthday last August 3 and also to talk personally with Ruffa to discuss the possibility of reconciliation.
If ever things would work out fine, Yilmaz reportedly wanted Ruffa and their children to permanently settle in Europe although it would still depend on Ruffa's family if they'll agree with the setup.
